WEEK 14

Week 14 required a shift from high-level theoretical concepts to practical, operational planning. My independent task this week was to design a detailed screen analysis coding sheet for my proposal. A common critique from university assessors is that qualitative research can easily descend into subjective bias. To protect my thesis from this vulnerability, I spent hours studying structured coding practices within visual methodologies.

The core of my self-reflection centered on how to turn abstract concepts like ‘erratic camera movement’ into measurable visual data. I successfully designed an analytical spreadsheet that breaks each key animation sequence down into specific tracking parameters. When analyzing a scene, I will systematically record: the duration of the shot, the degree of camera rotation (Z-axis roll), whether the characters are anchored on standard framing grids, and the presence of motion blur simulating physical speed. Autonomously creating this tool has significantly enhanced the academic rigor of my proposal, transforming my research from an opinion-based commentary into an empirical, systematic qualitative investigation.
